Preston - Childminder with Vanacies (Lane Ends)

Preston - Childminder with Vanacies (Lane Ends)
I am available between the hours of 8am and 5:30pm for childcare at my registered home. I am flexible. Full day care is £30 per day. School holiday’s are £25 per full day for school age children. Before school care is £3.50 and after school is £7.50. All food and activities are included whilst your child is in my care.
SO WHAT WILL YOUR KIDS BE DOING ALL DAY?
Full time kids - Not wanting to go to work and shuffle paper all day long my job as a childminder is fantastically suited to me – I like to do a lot and I can in this job. I can take my full time children swimming, or to play areas, or to nature reserves, or to the zoo, or to the sea life center, or to the library. And I do, every day. Tiring but fulfilling. I frown upon the childminder’s that chose their job for convenience – sitting on their bums drinking tea whilst their children run around bored at their daily visit to an indoor play area. I love indoor play areas, but not everyday, and when we leave I’m as tired as the kids. Participation is the key!
School Holidays - In the school holidays I make the most of organized events for the children, such as the guided talks through Beacon Fell where the kids can learn about the nature of the place, or the Easter egg hunt I took the kids on this last Easter where the kids joined other kids and walked in their groups around the park together on a treasure hunt. I find taking a bag of popcorn to the cinema makes for an exciting morning for the kids. I couldn’t keep the kids inside all day. I wouldn’t enjoy my job and the kids wouldn’t love “Jemma’s House”. Depending on numbers of children I thrive on being able to take the kids swimming and to my local rock climbing center so that they can try new activities.
Term Time - The kids that I have before school and after school enjoy their time with me. I ensure they’ve all eaten before school and wrap them up warm for the 10 minute walk to St Anthony’s. In nicer weather we’ll stop at the park for 10-15 minutes on the way to and/or from school. I believe that this short amount of time they get to run around and let loose makes them happier healthier kids and is a great way to start or finish the school day. I get them outside at every opportunity and at warmer times rather than feed them their tea at home I’ll take a selection of sandwiches and fruit and cereal bars etc so that they can picnic on the park before walking them back home to be collected.
EXPERIENCE
I have been a registered childminder from September 2011 and have cared for (and still care for) a baby, toddlers, younger and older school age children. I am a warranted Brownie and Guide leader and I'm currently planning a camp to get my camp licence so that I can take a group camping. This year I want to take a small group of older guides on a real outdoors experience - but inside. I have always loved Youth Hostelling so this is what I want them to experience, hostelling but with outdoor sports - hiking and climbing etc. I already go on around 6 camps a year organised by the already "camp licensed" brownie and guide leaders. They love having me because I find washing up relaxing!
RELEVANT QUALIFICATIONS
Childminder’s Ofsted Registration, 2 day Children's First Aid, Brownie and Guide Leader Warrant, Enhanced CRB check, I am working towards NVQ level 3 in children and young people - early years.
HOLIDAYS
Please note that in line with other childminders I charge full time places 52 weeks a year and take 5 weeks a year holiday. Bank Holidays are also paid. Some prospective parents have a problem with this and therefore don’t use childminders and instead choose a nursery which is a personal preference. Like all working people we need holidays too :-) I work closely with 3 other childminder’s within a mile of my home and they can usually provide cover for these times if you're unable to get the time off work. The children will know "Sharon, Carole and Jacky" well because we're out of trips together all week. A bonus for the children who get to mix with more children than the ones I care for. In 2012 my holidays are a week in February (climbing in Spain), a week in June (camping in the lakes), 2 weeks in October (visiting my fiancé’s relatives in Canada) and a week for Christmas.
ALL ABOUT ME - JEMMA KAMPZ
I am a childminder in Preston, Lancashire. I live on Arnott Road, near to the Lane Ends and a 10 minute walk from St Anthony’s school. Aside from being a Childminder, a Brownie Leader and a Guide Leader, there’s a lot more “about me” than the job that parents like to know before choosing their childcare provider, so here it is…
I knew from an early age that I have a bug for travel and adventure and that I wasn’t suited to a boring office job or even the management role I had at a hotel. Between College and University I took a year out and travelled alone to London, Austria and Dublin where I worked and met travellers and had a fantastic time.
I met my fiancé the summer before I started University. I have always had a full time job whilst studying. I wanted to travel in holidays so it seemed natural to work hard term time to be able to do this. After a years at Uni I followed a dream and had a summer abroad in America, saying goodbye to my family and boyfriend for 3 months. I worked 6 days a week as a housekeeper on a ranch where I met friends for life. In my spare time I could rock climb and ride horses for free. I ran all the time, up hill for 5 miles and then back down! Because of course we were in the mountains and had all this on our doorstep. The money I earned covered the cost of the flights and the food we were provided with was stunning – the same as paying guests at the Ranch. Who can complain when you get BBQ steaks twice a week? All in all, a brilliant choice of summer job.
After my 2nd year at University I took a year out. I spent 6 months working full time as an administrator for an engineering company to save like crazy. When the manufacturing team were behind they would let me work overtime from 4am at weekends to help them catch up in the factory. 2 days after Christmas in 2008 myself and my boyfriend got on a 1 way flight to Bali. We travelled to Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam and Laos also for the next 6 months. We found ourselves spending most of our time in Thailand where the climbing is world famous and the atmosphere of where we were staying was amazing and close knit family like and the food is the best we’ve ever had. We made more friends for life and have climbed with some of those people since then.
I finished a University degree in Business and Tourism Management a few years ago and assisted in the management of a local hotel before deciding on a career change and care for children… I’ve never looked back. I enjoyed learning about business and tourism - but have since realised it’s because I’m entrepreneurial and love travelling, not because I want to work a 24 hour rota for a hotel and have zero time for a quality of life ;-) Having my weekends and my evenings back to myself I am able to peruse my passion for rock climbing and running and swimming and walking the dog with my fiancé. I love my lifestyle and being able to enjoy this time makes me love my job even more. We have purchased a small end terrace on our street which is where I work from. Because I am rarely home with the kids, we’re always out and about, I don’t find having a small home a problem and the kids don’t know any different, they’re happy at “Jemma’s House” when they’re here. I don’t have outside space that is currently accessible for the children.
For those prospective parents that worry about my travel/adventure bug - I will travel again sometime in the future with plenty of notice and if you’re still with me at that time, all my parents will be offered an alternative childminder who the children will have regular contact with for the duration of the trip. I am very organised and very reliable. We have been engaged since early 2011 and hope to marry in Thailand sometime in the future. But for the foreseeable future I will be here working hard, enjoying the job and saving for a wedding and another adventure - maybe a honeymoon! I love my lifestyle - the best childminders love their jobs.
